OUR 120TH ANNIVERSARY

On May 1, 2023 the University Women’s Club, our very own club, celebrated 120 years of storied history. In 1903 a very courageous and motivated group of university graduates formed our Club. They sought companionship of their peers, cultural pursuits and to use their education and talents to help women in the community. These women were pioneers and trailblazers in law, government, medicine, academics and science. We are so proud of their accomplishments.

We celebrated their lives, our Club and its history. We had a lovely glass of bubbly, tea and sandwiches. Wendy welcomed the members. Chris and Susan pointed out the highlights in the birthday booklet (thanks to Ellen and Dorothy) with a few additional very interesting comments. It was also very entertaining to hear about the house at 162 St. George St. Imagine women buying property in 1929! There are some great stories about the bed & breakfast they operated in the house!

Throughout the 120 years of our history, our members have always been concerned and continue to be concerned about women on the margins and seek to help through education.

When women come together, magic happens.

The first 120 years in writing

Our first 120 years have been beautifully captured in two documents.

The Birthday Booklet was compiled as a result of much research, personal interviews and digging through photo archives.

In a second document with some very interesting stories(!), Judith Lewis, our longest serving president, shares her personal reflections on the Club she has been part of for over 30 years.
